Outstanding cakes, balloons, and celebrations for Jacks 100th birthday this week at Timken Grange. On Monday 17th May, Jack was able to take full advantage of the reduction in restrictions, which enabled him to spend time with his whole family on his special day. He and his wife who also resides at Timken Grange were able to have a face-to-face visit with their daughter, son-in law and 2 grandsons who showered Jack with birthday cards, gifts, balloons, and a very special card from Queen Elizabeth herself.
Jack was born May 17th, 1921 in Kingsthorpe, he lived in the area with his parents and older sister. He attended Kingsthorpe Grove School and then went on to the Bective Boys school where he enjoyed subjects such carpentry, metal work and history. He and his wife Irene met at a local dance hall “The Salon” where Irene quotes “I only noticed him because of his car”.
Jack and Irene married in St. John the Baptist Church in Kingsthorpe Village and had one daughter and 2 grandsons.
Jack joined the Royal Air Force and travelled all over during world war 2, once his time in service was done, Jack returned to Kingsthorpe where he took over the family shoe shop on Kingsthorpe Front with his wife Irene. Jack wrote about his time in the services, and he work was made into a published book which can be found at the Northampton General Library.
Timken Grange was able to arrange for Jack’s family to join him and his wife for lunch in their garden room, where our home chef whipped up Jacks personal request of pork chops with potatoes and trifle for pudding.
The homes fantastic Lifestyle Team had arranged for Jacks favorite activities, to be held in the afternoon, including Cocktail hour in the Sky Bar, where he was joined by fellow residents to carry on the celebrations of his big day.
Louise West, Deputy manager, handmade Jack’s birthday cake and included scenes and figures of some famous landmarks from around the world, as Jack has travelled far and wide during his life. Timken Grange also gifted Jack with a bottle of his favorite tipple, Baileys.
Jack had a wonderful time celebrating this milestone birthday, he was in awe of his birthday cake quoting “Well would you look at that! Now that’s a good bit of cake”. When asked if he had had a nice day, he stated “It’s been wonderful”.
