Every December the Alzheimer’s Society hold a fundraising event – Elf Day. On this day fundraisers dress up as elves and complete tasks to raise money for dementia research.
Alzheimer’s is a cause that we are passionate about, living and working in a care home you witness close up the devastating effect dementia has on everyone it touches.
This year Elf Day fell on Friday 3rd December and here at Timken Grange we jumped at the chance to elf around and raise some money, we wanted to do something a little bit different, so we decided on a street party.
Team members and residents alike donned our elf costumes and shimmied and shook our way through the car park and out onto the streets of Duston. The neighbours seemed a little shocked at first, but they were soon laughing and following us down the road. It was a joy to see how happy we made people who were just out doing their daily chores, we received so many smiles and several honks from cars passing by.
Sadly, the weather was not entirely on our side but still we managed to raise £40 for the charity and our lovely home manager, Amanda has generously agreed to match this amount.
It was such a fun afternoon and although it was cold and grey the sight of a group of octogenarian elves stomping down the high street did seem to brighten up the afternoon of everyone we bumped into.
