The history of jewellery is a long one and dates back thousands of years to the time of early man. Of course, this primitive jewellery was very different to the pieces that we wear today. This jewellery was crafted from animal remains such as bones and teeth. Hunters would wear them to demonstrate their prowess and strength or to bring them good luck on the next hunt.

Over the years the fashion for jewellery wearing has never waned, jewellery has become synonymous with superstition, some gems are thought to bring good luck or offer protection, jewellery can be worn to make a statement, a declaration of originality or wealth or offered as a symbol of love.

We love our jewellery; we treasure our wedding rings and wear necklaces and bracelets gifted to us with pride; they hold memories so precious.

This week we created our own jewellery. I have never been a particularly creative person, but I jumped at the chance to make myself something sparkly. We sat down to a table of beads and charms and let our imaginations run loose. None of us were phased, we threw ourselves into the challenge and created some really pretty bracelets, we were so engrossed, the time flew by. I love my new bracelet and feel proud to show it off.

Jewellery making is going to become a regular activity here at Timken and we are delighted. I am looking forward to making gifts for my family and friends and maybe a little something else for myself too.
